Spectutils Home Page

Spectutils is a software package for creating spectrogram plots of audio signals. Spectutils contains a set of subroutines for Gnu Octave and a set of Unix/Linux utility programs for sound file preprocessing.

For an introduction to Spectutils, see the DAFx-08 conference paper: http://www.acoustics.hut.fi/dafx08/papers/dafx08_49.pdf. Also, an online tutorial is available here.

2010-12-26: New major version: Spectutils 2.0.0.

Spectutils requires Octave 3.0.0 and and Gnuplot 4.2.0 or above. On Mac OS X, either AquaTerm or X11 is required. Pre/built binaries of Octave are available for both Mac OS X and Windows at http://octave.sourceforge.net.

Spectutils 1.0 has been tested under Fedora Linux, MacOS X 10.4.11/10.5.2 and Windows XP. Spectutils 0.8 and older versions were written for Octave 2.1 (or 2.0) and do not run on Octave 2.9 or newer.

The downloadable package is stored as a bzip2 compressed tar archive file and as an uncompressed tar file.
